Classic cars Event in Woodhall Spa

Organisers of the event say enthusiasts from Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, and Kent are planning to recreate the idea and organise their own events in 2016.

The Woodhall Spa event is set to take place on Sunday, April 26 at Jubilee Park.  Classic Car Event, Woodhall Spa

It commemorates 64 motoring pioneers who took part in a 1,000 mile trial in 1900 where they drove from London to Scotland and back.

Spokesman Malcolm Brown, of Kirkstead, near Woodhall Spa, said: “They started on April 23, so we’ve picked the Sunday closest to that for our event.

“They might have suspected that motor vehicles were about to change our lives, but they can’t have imagined by just how much.

“We want to recognise that expedition by showing the classic vehicles which exist today because of the same kind of love that people still feel for motoring.”

He added the idea behind the project was to bring classic car clubs together in a single display, which includes all different makes, in a central location for each county in the UK.

He said: “To our delight, the idea was welcomed with huge enthusiasm by a wide cross section of clubs in Lincolnshire and a generous grant was offered by Woodhall Spa Parish Council to help with finances.

“Our objective is to show and wow the public with the scope of interesting vehicles represented by the classic vehicle movement, and to indulge them in a large, heart-warming portion of nostalgia.”

Mr Brown said the event was open to anyone with an interesting vehicle to display.

He said: “Whether they’re a club member or coming under their own steam, the event will be an opportunity to meet like-minded enthusiasts and show their pride and joy to an admiring public.

“To make the day more worthwhile, we also plan to make it family-friendly, with lots to do, live music and a range of catering options as well as stands for specialist suppliers and services.

“As it’s a Sunday, we’ve even arranged for a short church service before the event.”

The event is free for the public to attend but the organisers are asking for the exhibitors to make a small donation towards costs.

It will be run on a not-for-profit basis and any money that is left over will be given to charity.
